I was wondering -- it's what I do most often -- if the dash isn't another punctuational stop, so I checked Fowler and learned that my copy of Fowler is in need of repair. That's another matter; the point of this reply is that Fowler's article on STOPS is a hoot. Turns out the dash is a form of parenthesis (with its own fine entry in Fowler) and not a stop. Who knew?

I'll be stuck in Lawler's gluetrap for at least a few days.

Thank you for another reason not to mow the weeds.

Meow.

it brings me exquisite joy to be a part of this mailing list! watching The Mole brought me to stephen baldwin’s wiki and i just want to share this paragraph:

In 2006, Baldwin launched a campaign to prevent an adult bookstore from opening in Nyack.[11] He has a tattoo on his left shoulder of the initials "HM" for Hannah Montana. He got the tattoo after making a pact with Miley Cyrus that he would be allowed to cameo on the show if he had the initials tattooed on him. He revealed the tattoo to Cyrus at a book signing in Nashville on November 10, 2008.[12] He was never given the opportunity to appear on the show and has since said that he regrets getting the tattoo.[13]

to be a fly on the wall at that book signing!!! also anderson cooper declined to host season 2 of the mole because of 9/11. he gets wine drunk in one episode. you should watch if you haven’t seen it yet!! or since 2001!!

i love these emails!!!

Okay so here’s a rabbit hole I went down: it occurred to me that there are probably islands in the Great Lakes, which led me to the Beaver Island Wikipedia page, which as it turns out was a Mormon kingdom for like 10 years following a succession crisis after the death of Joseph Smith. The leader of the kingdom was a bisexual polygamist and autocrat. That led me to the various non-mainstream Mormon offshoots, the largest of which is called the Community of Christ after it adopted mainstream Protestant teachings about the Trinity, which is really amazing to me
